Note: 2011+ Must use a filter head spacer plate. Billet Aluminum CAT filter adapter. 2 micron 1R-0749 CAT Fuel Filter. Filter Head Spacer & Hardware. Stainless Steel Bleeder Screw. The KBDP adapter has been engineered from the ground up to provide the best adapter on the market. Key features include: 13 1/4 fuel filter inlet holes which reduces stain on the CP3 Pump. Some competitors only use 8 1/4 inlet holes. Large Center fuel outlet hole measuring 5/8″ some competitors use a partial hole or a 9/16″ hole. 3.50 Hex for ease of removal. This adapter does require the drain back valve and water sensor to be removed. Neither of these modifications will cause any issues. Some competitor adapters use a finger that pushes on the ball of the drain back valve in, which makes instillation easier. However this leaves a large fuel restriction point in place and still disables the valve of its proper operation. The valve simply keeps fuel from dripping from the housing when the OEM style filter is removed but when removing the CAT filter and not the adapter the fuel will still drip from the housing due to the ball valve being depressed. This is why you’re better off removing the ball valve all together and installing an adapter without a restrictive valve finger. Lastly unplugging the water in fuel sensor will not cause a check engine light nor should one worry about it as long as the filter is changed regularly and the fuel is supplied from a trusted source. We appreciate your business! These instructions will reference letters found in the last images of the listing. Before undertaking this procedure be sure the vehicle is parked safely, the engine is off and the keys are removed. Lastly be sure to disconnect the battery. Also be sure your new parts are perfectly clean in order to prevent contamination of the fuel system. 1 Locate the fuel filter assembly on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Unplug the water in fuel sensor located at the bottom of the OEM style fuel filter. Loosen the fuel filter from the filter head but do not remove. 2 Mark the locations of fuel lines (A) and remove. Avoid damaging these fuel lines. 3 Unplug fuel heater wire (B) and remove T20 Torx screw (B) holding the ground terminal to the filter head. Retain the screw for reassembly. 4 Remove 2 metric flange head bolts (C). Retain the 2 flange head bolts for reassembly unless a filter head spacer is being installed. 5 Pull the filter assembly out of the engine bay and remove the fuel filter completely. Now is a good time to zip tie the water in fuel wiring harness out of the way in the engine bay. 6 On the bottom side of the fuel filter head remove two T20 Torx screws (D). Retain these screws for reassembly. 7 Pull the black plastic heater assembly away from the fuel filter head. Remove spring (E) and ball (F). 8 Re-install the black plastic heater assembly using Torx screws (D). 9 Screw the KBDP CAT filter adapter onto the Duramax filter head. Then screw the CAT filter onto the KBDP filter head. 10 Install the filter assembly back into the engine bay. Use the 2 metric flange bolts (C) unless a filter head spacer is being installed. Then connect the fuel lines (A) in their proper locations. Lastly connect the fuel heater wires (B) using the push connector for the red wire and the Torx screw for the black terminal. Before moving onto the next step be sure the CAT filter and KBDP filter adapter are screwed to the GM filter head tightly. 11 Bleed the fuel system of air using the normal priming procedure. Pump the priming plunger then crack the bleeder screw at the top of the fuel filter housing allowing the air to escape; then close the bleeder screw. Repeat this procedure until there is no air left in the system. Sometimes after the initial start up the engine will need re-primed.
